CUPE 3902 Unit 1 is now on strike. Unit 1 members across all three campuses include Teaching Assistants, laboratory assistants, and graduate student instructors.
The University and its facilities remain open. All University employees not represented by CUPE 3902 Unit 1 are expected to continue with their responsibilities at the University; this includes all staff, and faculty members and librarians.
We expect classes to proceed. However, some classes, labs or tutorials may need to be cancelled due to strike-related absences. You should allow more time to reach campus and your class than usual due to possible picket lines.
For updates on the status of a particular course or lab, always consult Blackboard. Please check often, as the status of your course may change; a class that is cancelled in a first week of a strike may not be in a second week. If you remain unclear about the status of a class after consulting Blackboard, contact your instructor or the department offering the course.
For further information including FAQs and the very latest updates on the strike, please consult the University’s homepage at www.utoronto.ca under the Announcements section.
We are firmly committed to maintaining our academic programs so that our students can continue learning and complete the academic requirements of their courses and programs within a reasonable timeframe. The University has been preparing for some time in order to minimize adverse impact of the strike on our students.
The University is committed to reaching a settlement for a renewal collective agreement and an expeditious end to the strike and will update our community regularly about latest developments.
